Happy World IPv6 Day!
According to website WorldIPv6Day.org
World IPv6 day, is a global-scale test flight of IPv6 sponsored by the Internet Society. On World IPv6 Day, major web companies and other industry players will come together to enable IPv6 on their main websites for 24 hours. The goal is to motivate organizations across the industry — Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies — to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 address space runs out.
As I explained before in my post “IP addresses are running out : Is this the end??” that we are running out of IPv4 addresses and we have to now shift to IPv6 IP addresses. Today is the Day when all the major organisations like goOgle, faceboOk, yahoO etc will take part in a 24 hour test flight.
Today is the big demo of how smoothly IPv6 transitions will go.
Here you can see the complete list of participants taking part in the Test Flight event for IPv6.
Some of the major participant websites are:
One of the most important goal of World IPv6 Day is t0 expose potential issues regarding IPv6 and address them as soon as possible as current version of IP protocola that we are using i.e. IPv4 is expected to run out in 2011 only.
You as a user are highly unlikely to experience any issue or difference at your side and the calculations suggest that only 0.05% of all users may encounter any connectivity problem but still if you are lucky enough to fall into that pool of people and experience any difficulty accessing any of the participating website.. try contacting your ISP for support.
And If you do experience any change today in the world wide web and feel that its due to the IPv6 day.. feel free to share it with us in the comments below..
